HOW DOES IT WORK?
This is not a regular music blog, it's more like an information clearinghouse to help you express your MPS-Love.
Click HERE, to view complete discographical listings by MPS catalog number. In progress of course--not yet all discography lists are posted. Then click through on catalog number to the individual album listing. Even more in progress, not all MPS albums have entries here yet.
Or view LABELS at left to search by year, artist, or subgenre. Not all entries have art or links. That's where you come in. Leave links or descriptions or reviews in the comments.
Don't forget to thank ME, for helping you complete your MPS collection. Don't forget to thank the various BLOG OWNERS for sharing their hard work, and don't forget to thank the ARTISTS by actually buying CDs so they can be paid for their work.
Check out the Jazz Labels Listing Project for more discographical info on MPS than you could ever imagine.
Then CHECK BACK frequently for updates, additions, and improvements.
Please HELP fill in the blanks by adding comments or links to blogs, art, reviews, sales offerings, etc.
Magic Purple Sunshine/MPS-Love is not affiliated in any way with the actual MPS company or its license holders.
UPDATE: I will try to record various album contributions in the comments here. If you subscribe to the comments on this post you will be notified of many reader shares and contributions.

«Oldest ‹Older 1 – 200 of 410 Newer› Newest»THESE ARE STILL LIVE AT OIR-
http://orgyinrhythm.blogspot.com/2006/12/nathan-davis-happy-girl.html
http://orgyinrhythm.blogspot.com/2007/01/charly-antolini-drum-beat.html
http://orgyinrhythm.blogspot.com/2006/10/mps-rhythm-combination-brass-power.html
Thanks Bacoso. I will create entries for these three soon.
Ish you're a brave man for undertaking this (especially alongside your strata endevours!)
i'll take a look through my collection when i get a chance to see if i have anything you need, and rip it if i do.
Do you have any preference on file size? since i tend to go at 320 and would need to get a flac ripper if you wanted flacs
O
@
http://analogged.blogspot.com
hey analogged.
thanks for your offer of help. you can post links here or put up an album on your own blog and just link here to it. if you have an album i haven't yet made an entry for, just let me know here and I will create one.
personally, I find mp3s more than adequate. i have burned 192kbps mp3s to CDs and they sound great. most people seem to favor 320. i'm not knocking the people with magic ears who find anything less than a lossless flac unlistenable, but for me mp3 is fine. plus, FLACs take an awful lot of downloading!
I'll have a dig through the collection this week then ish and see if i can fill any gaps.
best
O

i'd actually done an 'MPS' search on OIR - quite a collection ! - but hadn't searched 'SABA' there.
This is as good a place as any to post stuff I haven't created an entry for. I will get to things placed here soon and copy your links.
thanks to everybody for your enthusiasm.
Hi Ish,
If you create the following seven entries I'll post good covers (front and back) and info in the comments - no audio files, but it will look encouraging:)
15449 Frank Rosolino-Conte Candoli - Conversation - 1975
15467 Frank Rosolino-Conte Candoli - Just Friends - 1975
15468 Frank Rosolino-Conte Candoli - Westcoasting - 1975
15492 Supersax - Dynamite - 1978
15463 Francy Boland - The Orchestra 1. Blue Flame - 1976
15464 Francy Boland - The Orchestra 2. Red Hot - 1976
15465 Francy Boland - The Orchestra 3. White Heat - 1976
You're a saint, Simon. I'll try to get to it today.
OK all done - didn't actually have "Westcoasting" but the other six are there now.
Could be of interest to people :
I came across those great front/back cover scans as part of the research for my post of Frank Strazzeri's "View From Within".
They come from some guy's fortunecity discography of trombonist Frank Rosolino. While I've now milked those pages for all their MPS content and re-posted here in relevant entries , but there are many other good front/back scans there for 60s/70s jazz records.
Most of his links from his main page are now dead - but this Rosolino 70s page and this Rosolino 60s page contain many good scans - they look small but give them a right-click and you can read all the back-covers.
Rosolino worked across all sorts of jazz, funk and soul so there's a lot there. Who know how long these fortunecity pages last, so have a look ...

Holycrap, goldfinger...that's the atwork motherlode!
Thanks.
Simon is now the official king of Monty Alexander. Check within!
I don't know where else to post this because Heartplants (15026) doesn't have its own entry yet. A pretty good vinyl rip in flac format is now posted on this Chinese blog here:
http://mq0831.blog.hexun.com/20538941_d.html
This rip is/was originally on demonoid.
Anyway, the DL links are:
http://www.mediafire.com/?m109ekjdmcx
http://www.mediafire.com/?xbxzw2tbkgq
(2 part RAR archive - no pw)
Obviously not as nice as a CD rip (from the long OOP Japanese CD) but better than any of the other LP rips on other blogs like this here:
http://djalma-soulfood.blogspot.com/2008/03/gnter-hampel-quintet-heartplants-1965.html
Thanks, Anonymous. Hmm, Chinese blogs. Who knew! I will create an entry in the next day or two and copy your comment over.
Thanks again.
Sorry that the previous post (Heartplants) was as "anonymous." I just spaced on logging in before posting the comment.
hi, ish.
always thanks and respect to you.

My contribution to your wonderful blog. I've also posted this on my blog but don't link to it please. Here are the direct downloads. I'm sorry but the cover and back are from the US CD which has a different cover than the MPS. I went through 24 pages of Google links looking for the MPS cover but could not find it. I hope you have better luck.

Hi ish,
Just by chance I discovered the MPS album art link by "anonymous goldfinger" and although you need to be registered with google, I think there are many Magic Purple Sunshine visitors who'd like to browse these covers. Would it be possible to create a link on the right side of the mps-love main page to this?
http://picasaweb.google.com/artworkarchive/MPS
Just a suggestion.
Otto, nice idea.
Goldfinger would that be okay?
no problem :-)

THE LEGENDARY MPS SESSIONS
LATIN PATTERNS
CLARE FISCHER
MPS MOST PERFECT SOUND EDITION
Latin jazz great Clare Fischer fuses hot percussion and cool electric piano in this collection of outstanding recordings with his band Salsa Picante
Remastered with the new MOST PERFECT SOUND technique (192 kHz/24 BIT)!
Fire and ice. Pulsating latin percussion and cool, abstract fender rhodes. Clare Fischer is a sorcerer of sounds. More than merely a talented musician, he is a gifted painter of notes and an ever-rare orchestrator of colors. Whatever he plays, composes or arranges has the unique distinction of a breathtaking fusion.
Consider this while listening to Clare Fischer’s electric musings, a generous selection of which is collected here. Recorded between 1978 and 1980 for Hans Georg Brunner-Schwer’s innovative MPS Records, these fourteen songs – many of them Fischer originals -- are some of the richest sounds conjured in a long career sparkling with unique and memorable music.
Brunner-Schwer and Fischer kept in touch and formed an ongoing relationship (a very common thing for people who work with Clare Fischer). Four albums ensued: SALSA PICANTE (1979), MACHACA (1980), both recorded with a group of native Latin American musicians headed by Fischer and named Salso Picante; CLARE FISCHER AND EX-42 (1980), a quartet recording with Fischer on the electronic organ of the same name; and FOREIGN EXCHANGE (1981), , an album which added an ethereal quartet of vocalists to the Salsa Picante concept. This compilation features tracks from these four MPS albums.
Thanks for the info. goldfinger:-)

MPS - Clark Terry - Clark After Dark, The Ballad Artistry Of Clark Terry - 1977
http://rapidshare.com/files/135240505/MPS-CT-CAD.rar
A great 70s session from Clark Terry -- playing flugelhorn here with backings from Peter Herbholzheimer, and
sounding wonderfully sweet throughout! There's a spacious, patient quality to Terry's horn that reminds us a bit
of his gentler moments in the 60s with Bob Brookmeyer -- and even though Herbholzheimer's normally in a fuller
funky mode, his backings here are nicely restrained and quite mature -- modern enough to have a 70s feel, but never slick or cloying. There's almost an Art Farmer feel to the record at times -- and titles include the great original "Clark After Dark", plus versions of "Emily", "Yesterdays", "Nature Boy", "Girl Talk", and "November Song"

MPS - Ray Nance - Huffin' N' Puffin' - 1971
http://rapidshare.com/files/135254885/MPS-RN-H_P.rar
This is one of the rarest record dates led by Ray Nance, recorded in 1971 with pianist Kenny Drew, bassist Ron Mathewson, and drummer Daniel Humair. Nance pulls all the stops in showcasing his talents, opening with an obscure Ellington composition, "He Huffed 'n' Puffed" (played during just two 1965 concerts before it was dropped), with the leader delivering its jive vocal with his trademark humor in his hoarse voice. His swinging violin is heard on "Some of These Days" and his exotic original "Wild Child," written shortly before the session began, which finds him moving away from swing and closer to the post-bop sounds of John Coltrane. His muted horn and campy vocal on "Tangerine" and open horn on "Struttin' With Some Barbecue" are also highlights of what evidently was his final recording as a leader prior to his death in 1976. This long out of print LP is worth an extensive search. ~ Ken Dryden, All Music Guide

Milt Buckner - Birthday Party For H.G.B.S. - 1970
http://rapidshare.com/files/135265141/MPS-MB-HAPPY.rar
Some considerations about the rip I've made of this album.
For all of you who are thinking of burning it, please, burn sides A ans B without pauses between the tracks. That's a live concert (Happy birthday Hans Georg Brunner-Schwer! wherever you are...).
I ripped the record from a first german pressing, so you'll be able to listen yo the laughts of Milt and the brushes of Kenny. I decided to not clean the album with filters. And specially, not to clean the clicks and pops of the first two tracks of the B-Side. If you like you can clean them, of course. But I like as much the album as the spirit where it was recorded. So, laughts, jokes, people drinking, click and pops, are all in the same package. That's my rip!
As Hans Georg Brunner-Schwer said at the party: That's the way I'd like to have it, Milt"

Milt Buckner - Locked Hands - 1968
http://rapidshare.com/files/135333395/MPS-MB-LH.rar
Long, long, long time ago...
...one of the fathers of the funky organ sound and one of the inspirations for George Shearing's "locked hands" style of playing. Buckner played with McKinney's Cotton Pickers in the 1930s, then spent most of the 1940s with Lionel Hampton's big band. He struck out on his own, leading an unsuccessful big band that folded in 1949. He rejoined Hamp briefly, then left again to lead a trio. He recorded several classic albums for Capitol in the mid-1950s. Buckner pioneered the use of the electric organ as a substitute for a brass section, which proved an
effective economy measure as the big band era ended. He began touring in Europe in the early 1960s, and gradually shifted most of his appearances there, then Hans Georg (MPS Master) Brunner-Schwer crossed his road!
Oooh happy day!!!

Hey can anybody tell is the "Colorado Jazz Party" album what appears on the discography list as USA JAzz Live Vol. 1 The Hymn or are these separate albums?
Is the cover Goldfinger shows with the gold steam engine the proper cover for this one?
hey ish,
here's the discographical info for the one published in the 'crippled library' book.
Colorado Jazz Party
Thanks GF for all that discographical help. I think I've got it all straightened out enough to at least cover the bases. Made a bunch of cross reference links.
it's just on ebay:
http://tinyurl.com/6lvcau
probably it was published as 3 LP Box-Set
+++Hey can anybody tell is the "Colorado Jazz Party" album what appears on the discography list as USA JAzz Live Vol. 1 The Hymn or are these separate albums?

Yes, it is a picture of the
original number 1, similar to the vols. 2 and 3. The three bear a train engine and only the different musicians names in its covers and, of course, the number of the volume, is different between them.
In United States were published also in the late eighties but I don't know if the covers were the same. But in Germany, were published with the picture given by 'goldfinger' and in Spain and France (at least) vols, 1,2,3 beared the same picture with the back covers in emglish/spanish and english/french in a collection named Jazz Stop. Covers of Vols. 2 and 3 are included in the links given in this forum.
Thanks for the work!

Oscar Peterson - Exclusively for My Friends - The Lost Tapes - 1965 [LIVE]
http://rapidshare.com/files/140402310/MPS-OSCAR-LOST.rar
Between 1963 and 1968, Oscar Peterson released a series of six albums for the German MPS label. Recorded before a live audience in an elegant, old Black Forest villa, the albums had a looser, more intimate feel than the commercially minded projects he cut with American producer Norman Granz. This album consists of previously unreleased performances from '65 to '67. On the later sessions, bassist Ray Brown and drummer Ed Thigpen are replaced by Sam Jones and Bobby Durham, respectively. Peterson reins supreme on the keys, leavening his baroque flourishes, which eventually came to characterize his playing, with convivial good vibes. --Rick Mitchell

Eugen Cicero - Swinging The Classics On MPS (3CD set) (Rokoko Jazz/Cicero's Chopin/Swinging Tschaikowsky/Romantic Swing/Balkan Rhapsody)

http://rapidshare.com/files/141922448/MPS-CICERO-COVERS.rar
Some of the grooviest classical piano work you'll ever hope to hear, thanks to the keyboard talents of the amazing Eugen Cicero -- heard here on five albums' worth of material recorded for the legendary MPS label! Back in the 60s, a number of European artists were experimenting with a blend of classics and jazz -- but few did it as well as Cicero, who could hit the keys with the fluidity of a concert pianist, but make the whole thing swing like some of his best jazz labelmates! Great credit here goes to the members of his trio -- mostly Peter Witte on bass and the legendary Charly Antolini on drums, the latter of whom had a sense of tightness that really brought a new sense of energy to these tracks. 3CD package features all the material from the albums Rokoko Jazz, Cicero's Chopin, Swinging Tschaikowsky, Romantic Swing, and Balkan Rhapsody -- plus a few more bonus tracks from other non-classic MPS sessions. Titles include "Und Bach", "Liebestraum", "Sogni D'Amore", "Dir Gehort Mein Ganzes Leben", "Dort In Der Ferne", "Rumanische Volksweisen", "Chanson Napolitaine", "Etude In E Op 10 No 3", "Bach's Softly Sunrise", and "Sonata In C"

Last update for today,
from He-Ho, Albert Mangelsdorff Tromboneliness
and from Jazzman, some additional post-MPS recordings from Supersax, see the Supersax Chasing the Bird entry.
thanks to all...and to TF for the Eugen Cicero.
I had to come back and tell TF how much I am enjoying Eugen Cicero. This material is like nothing I have ever heard. The way he interprets the classical material into swinging jazz renditions is a sheer joy to listen to.
Like I said before, anyone who likes "the" Tete has got to have good taste and this proves my point. Thanks again.
You're welcome, the jazzman, for your kind words:-)
And I'll take advantage of your feelings after listen to Cicero, Witte and Antolini renditions to the classics, to ask in this particular place of this site one think that I've already asked before in another entry.
Do you have or anybody other merciful soul, Buddy Tate Celebrity Club Orchestra - Unbroken - 1970?
Could please, if so, rip it for me and anybody here?
I loved that stuff that I've lost, and with this blog I started to seriously miss a new listen to it!
Thanks in advance.

TF....my Buddy Tate is limited to the following, any of which I would be happy to upload for you:

Buddy Tate & His Buddies
Buddy Tate: Just Friends (with Houston Person)

Anyway, I'll keep looking for it and if it's me who finally find the stuff, be sure I'll upload it for this site.
Thanks again:-)

Today's update is from Tete Forever, the complete 2 LP set of MPS Rhythm Combination & Brass My Kind of Sunshine.
Thanks TF!!
the jazzman,
After reading the list of Buddy Tate you gentle give us, I can't help but posting here an item that I think you'll like as any MPS aficionado will do, and that despite it is not a MPS production, says a lot of how European Jazz producers influenced the club Scene in the seventies and later, even in the States.
Besides, a 'guru' of MPS staff plays and sings (as always) in the sesion: Milt Buckner, what makes more a like MPS 'in spirit' production for me.

Early update, 2 from Tete Forever:

Despite the fact that I grew up thinking, by virtue of my father's Shearing 78s, that Shearing was a kind of fuddy-duddy relic, there's some pretty groovy stuff on the Shearings that have already been posted. I look forward to listening to these.
Seeing all those Shearing covers here day after day (without links) for a big Shearing fan, was very frustrating. Thanks to "goldfinger" for ending the frustration.

A groovy dream come true -- the complete studio recordings of German bandleader Peter Herbolzheimer -- easily one of the funkiest European talents of the 70s! Although Herbolzheimer's got a clunky name, his sound is incredibly fluid and tight -- a large group approach to funk that rivals some of the best American work of his time -- including classics from Lalo Schifrin, Johnny Pate, and other key maestros of the blacksploitation era. Peter's got a way of taking a large group of players and really making them groove -- a sound that's kind of an electrified extension of the styles first laid out at MPS by the Clarke-Boland Big Band, but served up with a hipper, funkier 70s approach to rhythm. Like the CBBB, Herbholzheimer's groups often feature American players -- such as Art Farmer on trumpet or Herb Geller on saxes -- alongside more familiar MPS talents like Dusko Goykovich on trumpet, Dieter Reith on organ, Ferdinand Povel on flute, Jiggs Whigham on trombone, and Sigi Schwab on guitar -- joined by the legendary Sabu Martinez on a few of the best sessions here! The 4CD set is a massive discovery in music -- as it features not only Herbholzheimer's Rhythm & Brass albums for MPS and Polydor, but also records under the group names Certain Lions & Tigers and The Galactic Light Orchestra. The package features a whopping 8 albums in all -- Soul Condor, Time Travellers Galaxis, Waitaminute, Wide Open, Hip Walk, Touchdown, and I Hear Voices -- most of which have never been reissued before -- a whopping 61 long funky jazz tracks!

Finally made it over here and am impressed with the site - a great team effort!
While perusing, I noticed a couple of links to posts that I've made at Call It Anything and thought I'd throw another one into the mix where I see a cover with no links to the recording.
You can find Rob McConnell's "Tribute" over at CIA in flac w/high res cover photo.

Hi Alpax -
A question while you're here (as I can't contact you in any other way) :
I posted Norman Connor's "Dance Of Magic" at my blog, and as part of the discography in the post, put a link to your CIA post of "Dark Of Light" FLACS (as I assumed people would be interested in both).
Twice, I tried to add a link back in the comments of your post, twice it was seemingly disallowed.
If YOU personally prefer this not to be done, no problems. (I already had a link to Pharoah's Dance post of the album, and just wanted to also link to the FLAC version. )
But if it's a moderator decision of which you're unaware, I wonder if you could ask them for their rationale in censoring the comments to your share?
Thanks, and sorry all for the momentary thread hijack.
All the best,
Simon
... and Alpax, click my name to grab my email if you want to reply off this thread.

Simon

A quick update:
Thanks, Tete Forever, for the upload you just made!
Zipflo Reinhardt, Schmitto Kling, Nipso Brantner, Hannes Bechmann - The Gipsy Jazz Violin Summit - 1979
simon - I don't have a problem with you linking to my posts on CIA. If I didn't want to share the music, I wouldn't have posted it in the first place. I only get irritated when someone re-ups the files and then posts them at another site, although I know it's impossible to prevent this from happening from time to time.
I always appreciate fellow music bloggers asking before publishing the links - it's just good manners.
I don't have any control over CIA - you'll have to contact Rab with any questions. I do know that he doesn't allow live links so you might want to try just cutting and pasting the url.
Thanks for all of your efforts at this site, it's a real treasure trove!
Thanks for replying Alpax, I'll email Rab. Good that you found Magic Purple Sunshine, Ish has done an amazing thing here :)

Hello,
First thing: this site kicks ass! Thumbs up!
I'm sorry I'm a relative newcomer for this blog thingie, but I'd like to share one of my vinyl rips that I noted you don't already have.
It's a 1969 release on MPS (then) budget label Center for mainly easy listening and schlager music, but there were some hidden jazz gems there also. This one by a completely unknown Kosta Lukacs Combo doesn't have any musicians credited, so I only have to guess this Django-like guitarist is the one Kosta Lukacs. Whoever were the backing drummer and bassist I have absolutely no idea.
This album didn't even make it to the otherwise excellent MPS discography book, so rare it is. Maybe it wasn't rated as "real jazz" by the author, who knows, but at least in my book it's a very good example of "gypsy jazz". If Art Van Damme is jazz, then why not this?
Anyways, I hope you enjoy this rip. Made with a very high end gear from start to finish. No filters used, only obvious clicks removed manually, but records were cleaned up physically before the ripping process on a German made Record cleaning machine, of course :-) Rips are VBR at the highest rate. It's as good as straight 320 but saves quite a bit of space.
Oh, here's the link:

If you have any requests, don't hesitate to ask me, I may have it.
"mellow"
Thanks Mellow. I created an entry for this album Terrific album I had never heard of. Great sound....and it's definitely jazz. My label "trad jazz" seems a little inadequate but I don't want to call this one now sound or easy listening at all.
I'm copying your comments over there.
As for requests, tops on my own personal list--having had my list MORE than filled many times over!--are the three MPS gospel albums which I've been very curious about...RObert Patterson Singers, Keynotes & Stars of Faith. Have you ever run across those?
Yes ish, I have all those three gospel albums. My copy of Keynotes is a bit wavy though and doesn't really apply my standards of fidelity. Have to search for a better copy. It's not really my favourite kind of music, though. I will upload at least the other two sooner or later.
But while I'm at it. I packed another hidden gem from the Center label, by a clarinetist called Fred Spannuth. Musicians are credited on the back cover, I only recognized Hans Van Der Sys (he has a ragtime LP on MPS) and Kurt Bong who also appeared on HGBS Nr. 1 and some Monty Alexander LP iirc.
There were also albums like Mr. Trombone and Mr. Hammond on Center, but they're more in a cheesy type of light music. I have not ripped them yet.
This Mr. Clarinet fits the same trad jazz category as Mr. Guitar, and will probably never be released on CD, but who knows then...
Enjoy

thanks very much mellow!!
my requests:
Attila Zoller & Masahiko Sato - A Path Through Haze
Hans Koller Freesound - For Marcel Duchamp
Gunter Hampel - Out of New York
any share highly appreciated ;-)
--goldfinger
Thanks "mellow". Anything that is Django-like gets my attention.
Goldfinger, apparently your wish is somebody's command.
Kindly mosey on over to
15334 Attila Zoller & Masahiko Sato - A Path Through Haze - 1971
Thanks to Mr/Ms Anonymous.
thanx for the hint ish.
and thx again mellow/anonymous for attila :)
Robert Patterson Singers on original Saba LP, vinyl vbr rip, complete with sfv, scans of front, back, gatefold & label.
Here you go:
http://rapidshare.com/files/145270553/Robert_Patterson_Singers_Gospel_Meeting_Tonight_Saba_GER_LP_1967.rar.html
Thanks Mellow! That will make it a gospel sunday or something. We all have our non-jazz weaknesses!
Ish: I've found this three Center label references:
center 17 027 - Dieter Reith Combo - Open Drive - 1968
http://rapidshare.com/files/145723849/center_17_027_st.rar
center 17 035 - The First Rockers United Company - Rock Race - 1969
http://rapidshare.com/files/145713182/center_17_035_st.rar
center 17 040 - The Soul Explosion - Soul Fire - 1969
http://rapidshare.com/files/145723850/center_17_040_st.rar
but, also an Basf-Cornet one:
basf-cornet 20 21412-5 - Dieter Reith - Hammond Explosion - 1974
http://rapidshare.com/files/145729543/basf-cornet_20_21412-5.rar
(all four with complete highres scans)
that I don't really know if matches with the standards of your blog. But, it matches with the feeling of MPS sound.
Anyway, here you have all four.
Have Fun:-)
Tete Forever
As per request here's Hans Koller Free Sound album For Marcel Duchamps. I think every who enjoyed Phoenix from the same combo will like this one too.
As usual, readable scans of front, back & label art included.
Have fun!
http://rapidshare.com/files/145756389/HansKollerDuchamps.rar.html
Thanks Tete forever, I think these are all originate from my archives. Dieter Reith is a solid soul jazz/hammond album, the other Dieter Reith on Basf is not an MPS issue, but fits here perfectly well I think. It's a solid jazz album as well.
First Rockers is a nice and uplifting "Now sound" album. Big band groove a la Erwin Lehn / Jankowski/ Herbolzheimer et al with a touch of rock and roll, but leans heavily to the jazz side imo. A nice, and utmost rare album. Soul Explosion is also rare but personally I didn't find it very good. Surprisingly enough the songs are all original, instead of being covers of well known soul songs; but I don't really like the lead singer's voice. But hey, that's my opinion only. Enjoy it to the max if you please :-)
I think I'll have to dig that Center label more - there are big surprises and they have not been discussed (or rated) elsewhere I think.
Keep on diggin' the MPS grooves...
"mellow" the fellow
Thanks, TF & Mellow, for the shares and info.
I have listed other Center issues here and they seem to fit in perfectly. I will create entries when I can.
In other updates, TF has also dropped a new original 320 rip of Joe Venuti, The Daddy of the Violin from 1971. Thanks as always!
Thanks "mellow" the fellow, for the info and for the shares. This kind of stuff, despite I like it, it's not really what i'm used to listen.
By the way, I'll say it again and loud:
does anybody have my poor and lost 15281 Buddy Tate Celebrity Club Orchestra - Unbroken - 1970 album???
;-)))
Hi, ish
In the response of the jazzman to my post of Joe Venuti - the Daddy Of the Violin, there's a link to a blog. In that blog there'es an entry:

;-)
Per request:
The Music Of Gunter Hampel - Out Of New York - MPS-Basf 2120 900-8, 1971
Musicians: Gunter Hampel (vibes, flute, piano, bass clarinet, alto clarinet, occarina), Jeanne Lee (vocals), Perry Robinson (clarinet) & Jack Gregg (bass, violin, wood flute)
Produced by: Joachim E. Berendt
Recorded July 29th, 1971 at Sound Ideas Studio, Broadway, NY by George Klabin.
Cover painting: Inscape No.6 by Gunter Hampel.
Cover design & layout by Heinz Bähr
This album is not for the faint hearted, and certainly not one of the easiest to digest. It contains two original 4-part symphonies by Gunter Hampel. It has nothing to do with classical symphonies like Beethoven, Mozart etc. I'm not musically educated enough to tell why these are called symphonies - maybe it's just a structural thing.
The music is hardcore avantcarde free jazz that, lots of woodwind instruments and amazing vocal workout and sometimes poetry by Jeanne Lee - somewhat reminiscent of Urszula Dudziak's vocalizing.
I didn't split the individual parts of each symphony into separate files, so you get the whole sides of the vinyl as two huge ca. 25 minute mp3's. Ripped at the best Lame vbr setting. Recorded with a high class vinyl gear and a HQ soundcard with no unnecessary filtering and tampering with. Just the few bigger clicks manually removed here and there.
All images attached, it features a particularly attractive cover art (ah yes, the orientation is correct although it might at first not look so).
This has not been available anywhere before, freshly ripped a couple of hours ago :-)
Enjoy this extremely rare package of very demanding music from a great German avantgarde player.

A little update today:
TF has supplied FLAC links to 2 George Duke Albums (Feel & I Love the Blues...)
And Mellow has linked to some interesting sounding (haven't watched em yet) youtube videos of the Kenny Clarke Francy Boland Big Band performing the album Faces live. On the Faces entry.
thanks all.
TF- I know you like Buddy Tate. These are the links to an old album with Marian & Jimmy McPartland. Its not MPS but I hope its OK to put it here. If not, ish, give me a warning shot.

I got no problem with you sharing anything you like, Jazzman. Knock yourself out.
Thanks a lot jazzman. Maybe Ish does not knock you out, but I haven't listen to the record yet and only the cover knocked me absolutely out;-)
I've really appreciate your post.
TF.....Buddy Tate Celebrity Club Orchestra - Unbroken. You (and I) can start to get a little excited. However, until I have it in my hands I will continue to be a pessimist.
I've ordered the album from a dealer. Advertised as "near mint" but with a freyed cover with a hole in it (I couldn't care less). Supposed to be up to five days for a contact.
Keep the faith but don't hold your brreath.
I won't hold my breath. But I'll start praying asking the dealer make his work.
I'll keep myself looking for the album too. Thanks, jazzman:-)
TF.....transaction for BT album completed and paid for.
I'm at the mailbox now waiting.
